April 2023

Just one more loop...

The “new venue” edition

For the 2023 edition of the PBBU, we reluctantly moved venues. However, this turned out to be one of our best, forced decisions yet. The owner of Lekwena Private Wildlife Reserve was so kind as to buy into our concept and agreed to host the 2023 edition on this marvellous piece of land in the North-West province.

Our faithful sponsors, Mooirivier Beskerming, Jenny Internet, Honey Badger Balm, and Taaibosch Piggery, once again came on board to make the event a huge success!

New Record

Not only did the winner set a new PBBU record, she was also our very first lady winner. Nicky “Turbo Mamba” Booyens did not disappoint. Nicky is well known in the ultra-running community and the Unicorn did not doubt that she was the one to beat.

First lady winner

After 22 yards (147km), she received the Unicorn from the Unicorn and, with that a silver ticket entry into the 2024 World BYU Champs to be hosted in October 2024.

Lots of nutcases out there!

48 deranged runners lined up at 06:30 for the race briefing, with the dreaded whistle being blown for the first time at 06:57.

Start of the race

At 7:00 the 48 souls set off to become one of the most successful PBBUs yet. Forty percent of these runners went on to run their personal best distances, after which the Spanner of Shame had to be taken up and slammed against the Dis of Disgrace!
